YOUTH CHALLENGE PROGRAM SERIES 2012
Has the ADF helped shape Australia's national identity?

Wrap Up

The 2012 series of the DEFENCE 2020 – Has the ADF helped shape Australia's national identity? 2012 Youth Challenge Program has just concluded with the final Challenge held in Adelaide on 25 May.

This was the fifth year of the DEFENCE 2020 program which brought together students from different schools and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel to explore many of the issues surrounding defence and Australia’s responsibility as a global citizen in the past, present and the future.

During 2012 some 130 schools and more than 1400 students, teachers and ADF guests took part in what was described by one teacher as 'a fantastic, interactive and engaging program - quite unique in its delivery and learning outcomes! My kids are still talking about it and looking forward to next year'.

Most students who attended were from Years 9-11 and the program was particularly relevant to SOSE, Citizenship Education, History and English curriculum areas.

This year the program rated higher than ever with more than 93% adjudging it Excellent or Very Good.

Since the program commenced in 2008 we have run 75 state, regional and national challenges throughout Australia with more than 8,000 students and 900 schools getting involved.

DEFENCE 2020 has been a very rewarding program for all involved - students, teachers and Defence guests. We would like to thank everyone who has supported and directly participated in this educational and community engagement program.

Please explore the resources on this site to see how DEFENCE 2020 has engaged the youth of Australia and our Australian Defence Force.
